I am short, medium built with straight long black hair. I have a round face with a straight nose. My eyes are brown in colour and I am fair in complexion.

Can you tell who am I base on what you read?

 Yes, you can.

Base on this type of writing genre you can use it to give your readers a clear, precise description of a person, place, thing or event spoken about so that they can gain a clear picture in their minds. Do you know what type of genre writing is this? Yes, it is descriptive writing. As much as  I can remember from my  school days, descriptive writing has being around for a very long time. I can vividly remember writing a lot of descriptive pieces both in primary and secondary school. In my opinion this types of writing is not so challenging to students because they have been doing it at a very young age, as early as preschool so the children have some form of prior knowledge about this writing and they are familiar with it  than the other types of writing. To me personally I enjoy writing descriptive pieces.

Some take away from Descriptive Writing

  • The writer must use vivid details to paint a particular picture for the readers.
  •  Descriptive as a mode of writing is used to create the impression of a person, place or event by the careful use of sensory details.
  •  It is vivid, lively and interesting and the images are concrete and clear.
  •  It gives a clear detailed impression of a character and creates a mood or atmosphere of a particular place.
  • The readers will also be able to use the details provided to understand who or what the writer is speaking about.
  •  The writer will become careful observers and choose precisely language when they use description.  They take notice of sensory details and learn to make comparisons using metaphors and similes in order to make their writing more powerful.

I came across this video which I think is very interesting. The video shares some useful tips to help writers bring their descriptive pieces to life. In the video comparisons were made with sentences on how they can be used to paint a vivid paint in the reader's mind. Also, a well-detailed explanation was given on how to use and intertwine our different senses within our writing.
