There is a first time for everything!
I will like to thank Mrs Lazarus for giving me the
opportunity to experience my first poetry gallery. It was my first time participating in any gallery exercise. I must say
the experience was breathe taking, listening to the soft music to relax us, walking around
the class reading and understand what each poem was telling us and relating the
poems to our own experiences was very meaningful. Snacking on the nuts and tiki to rejuvenate us from the first period. What a wonderful experience that was! This experience will remain with me for life,
my first gallery experience. Being part of this experience had bought the thought to me, that I can use this activity with my students to display their writing
pieces and other work done. In this way, the students can get to see each others great work and get ideas from them to help improve in weak areas if there is
any. Also, if this activity is done it
will be meaningful to the students because they will be using the different modes of Language such as reading each other work, writing by taking little notes of
what they observe, speaking to each other, discussing and ever complimenting one
another on their work. They will be viewing by looking at each others work
and finally they will be listening to each other. I think if a work gallery is
done the students will love experience. From this experience I have learnt that the teacher does not always have to talk to bring out or teach a lesson but there are other
means and ways to bring cross the message and main points by just looking.
