https://www.google.com/search?q=descriptive+writing&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjZ2smtv8ftAhXts1kKHVfDDIAQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq I am short, medium built with straight long black hair. I have a round face with a straight nose. My eyes are brown in colour and I am fair in complexion. Can you tell who am I base on what you read?  Yes, you can.  Base on this type of writing genre you can use it to give your readers a clear, precise description of a person, place, thing or event spoken about so that they can gain a clear picture in their minds. Do you know what type of genre writing is this? Yes, it is descriptive writing. As much as  I can remember from my  school days, descriptive writing  has being around for a very long time . I  can vividly remember writing a lot of descriptive pieces both in primary and secondary school. In my opinion this types of writing is not so challenging to students because they have been doing it at a very young age, as early...

There is a first time for everything!

https://www.google.com/search?q=people+art+gallery+clipart&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwj4ranQmsftAhUGiFMKHboOAWYQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq I will like to thank  Mrs Lazarus for giving me the opportunity to experience my first poetry gallery. It was my first time participating in any gallery exercise. I must say the experience was breathe taking, listening to the soft music to relax us, walking around the class reading and understand what each poem was telling us and relating the poems to our own experiences was very meaningful. Snacking on the nuts and tiki to rejuvenate us from the first period. What a wonderful experience that was! This experience will remain with me for life, my first gallery experience. Being part of this experience had bought the thought to me, that I can use this activity with my students to display their writing pieces and other work done. In this way, the students can get to see each others great work and get ideas from them to help improve in weak areas i...

https://www.google.com/search?q=balanced+literacy+approach&rlz=1C1JZAP_     Teacher: Hello, how can I assist you today my dear students? Students: Can you serve us a balanced literacy approach to guide us towards proficient, lifelong reading and writing today? Teacher: Yes! Sure, with great pleasure. I will serve you the right amount needed in read-aloud, shared reading, guided reading, independent reading, shared writing, interactive writing, guided writing and independent writing to become proficient and lifelong reader and writer.   Our session on balanced literacy approach is one of the most memorable experience I ever had, from the start of the session to the end. The presenter did an excellent job through the entire session. The first activity done ‘read the room’ left me amazed because this was the first time I heard about it and doing it as an exercise. From this experience, I can try this activity with my students upon return to ...

Likewise, in writing there are six plus one (6+1) wonderful ingredients that children can use to help them produce quality writing. These ingredients are ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions and presentation. Before learning the 6+1 traits of writing, I never paid great attention to it. I knew I had to generate ideas, organize the piece of writing from the beginning to the end, sentences needed to have rhythm and flow and the conventions of writing such as spelling, ...

The Stages of Writing Development (https://clipartspub.com/transparent-clipart-bcjfjj) As children grow and develop, they go through different stages of writing. It has never crossed my mind that children go through different stages of writing. When class initially started on the stages of writing, I was able to relate to the Emergent and Early Writers because I have taught at the kindergarten level so I had some experience with some of the characteristics displayed by these types of writers. I was amazed to learn and understand what each stage was explaining. I can now proudly say that I fully understand each stage.  I learnt a lot of vital information about children writing development from the different stages. I am now better equipped in helping my students to go through each stage of writing development.   From the knowledge gained, I am now able to provide advice, assist and support to my student’s parents about the different stages of writing and share the...

The Power of Persuasive Writing                                ( https://www.tes.com/lessons/AAQePU0y_fXBcw/persuasive-essay ) I must confess that classes on persuasive writing was very intriguing and had left me to ponder on my school days. As I reflect on my secondary school days this made me that my teachers mainly focused on descriptive and narrative writing rather than on persuasive writing. In previous courses, I have done persuasive writing so I had knowledge about it. But now learning about persuasive writing in other ways. This has now opened up a whole new perspective for me. The moment I realized I was missing out on persuasive writing was when our lecturer Mrs Lazarus gave us an activity and we had to share.   I must say when Keida and Erica presented this, it was my breaking point. The way they bought life to persuasive writing left me speechless and made me realize I was missing...
